3 Lane Self-Checkout (December 2022 - Old Folks Ass, Auckland) An evening of three performances about taking care of your self.
LANE ONE - Belgian based choreographer and dancer Meytal Blanaru presents Rain, a solo dance performance exploring the complex terrain of abuse with modesty and generosity. LANE TWO - Tāmaki Makaurau based multimedia artist Gabriel White and performance maker Stephen Bain present Soft Capital, a video and text performance about navigating your self through a soft city. LANE THREE - Aotearoa based musical maestro Hermione Johnson scores Maya Deren’s classic film Meshes of the Afternoon, an avant-garde cyclical classic shot in 1943.
Re-enactments & Re-writes (May 2022 - Old Folks Ass) Time to reap the ample vegetables of adventurous arts from Tāmaki Makaurau in an evening of music, film, dance and language.
An episodic arrangement of performances that bounce off one another like molecules in a liquid furnace. Each month a theme brings together a selection of experimental artists as a single collage. May is the time for re-enactments, returning to events and episodes that once defined us are re-interpreted with hindsight. A lavish evening of new music, exploratory film, candid poetics, and terrestrial dance, featuring illustrious performers from Aotearoa. Rosie Langabeer–composer, arranger and band leader, colours the room with organ and piano, Tessa Mitchell¬–actress and performer re-enacts language of the page, Andy Scott–short film re-enacting a domestic life in a single take, Ben Homes–new songs for old ailments, Neil Feather-master musical inventor and machines of sound, Stephen Bain–conjures images in 2 and 3 dimensions.

An evening of Public Intimacy, led through a series of inner spaces at the Old Folks Ass, join us for a lavish banquet of atmospheric détournement. Mindset Shipping (August 2022 - Pyramid Club, Wellington) Mindset Shipping - Experimental films by Gabriel White & Stephen Bain (Tāmaki Makaurau)
A twisted journey through everyday images of the city, revealing fictional worlds and a shared sense of disappearing. Gabriel White is a multimedia artist whose films and videos use comedy and social commentary to probe urban situations. Stephen Bain is a live performance maker who uses public space to create theatrical situations from everyday interactions. Together they infiltrate the Pyramid Club with a sample of past work and a newly minted performance collage of image, sound, text and performance.

Guest artists include Tash van Schaardenburg fresh from her artist residency in Pōneke, Tessa Martin returning briefly to Aotearoa from Brussels, Belgium, and Gabriel White with his unique blend of image and commentary. Czech architect Henry Kulka’s modernist triumph, the Old Folks Coronation hall, becomes the canvas for performance possibilities in the time of social anxiety.
